Configure Tax Rates & Categories

This tutorial guides you through setting up taxes in your system to ensure accurate tax calculations. Before starting, make sure you have access to the settings menu and understand your tax requirements.

Navigate to Settings Menu

We're going to set up taxes. First thing you do is go to settings.

Open Settings Section

Click the Settings option to access configuration options for your account.

Access Tax Settings Overview

We're going to go to settings taxes, you have tax rates, you have tax categories, we're going to create a rate first, and we'll call this alcohol.

Enter Tax Rate Name

Enter the name for your tax rate to identify it clearly in your system.

Specify Tax Rate Percentage

And then we'll make that.

Set Tax Rate Value

8% and you have to do the 08. You can't just type 8 and then everything should be item level. We save it. Now, it says 8% alcohol. And then, let's say we wanted to make a THC, we'll call it THC, and THC will be, will make THC 9%.

Create New Tax Rate

Click the Create button to add the new tax rate to your list.

Assign Tax Rates to Categories

And then you can assign these to categories.

Click Create tax category to organize your tax rates effectively.

Explain Tax Category Purpose

So it's semi duplicative. But when you have States and you have counties, it makes a difference because you can lump a city and a county tax together. So we'll say tax rate Supply or alcohol.

and now you have this tax category and a lot of times you'll have a non-taxable Category.

A non-taxable with no rates and you have an alcohol with alcohol tax. And then to assign these, you can assign them as the item level. But most people will select a department and they'll say, Okay, beer,

Click Departments to manage your product groupings and tax assignments.

Assign Non-Taxable Category to Department

A gift card or something like that. And we'll say it's non-taxable. And then these now have non-taxable rates with gift cards, and Cake deposits. You also often want to sell those as a liability, so they don't hit your sales, and you often want to make them non-disabled. So this will blanket assign everything in that category. to be non-taxable
