How Blind Receiving Works
Access requirements. Same "Purchase orders" edit access as creating or starting a normal PO — there's no separate permission for this.
It creates a real purchase order, just starting empty. A blind receiving session is a genuine purchase order from the moment you start it — already in Receiving status, with a normal PO number, just with zero items on it yet.
Invoice upload and OCR still work exactly the same way. Uploading an invoice auto-extracts products, quantities, and costs for a blind session the same way it does for an ordered PO — this isn't a manual-only flow.
If you skip the invoice and add items by hand, a matching price-book cost overrides whatever cost you type in. Quantity always uses what you enter; cost only uses your typed value if there's no price-book cost on file for that item and distributor.
The distributor is locked in from the start, same as any purchase order. You can still change which store it's for later, but not the distributor.
You can't "cancel back to ordered" a blind session — there's no ordered state to go back to. If you need to abandon one, delete the purchase order itself; that also removes the empty receiving session behind it.
It's always a single-PO session. The multi-PO receiving-session feature (combining several orders into one session) doesn't apply here — blind receiving always creates and works with exactly one purchase order.
Where to Access Each Feature
To… | Go to |
Start a blind receiving session | Purchase orders → "Start receiving" → "Blind receiving" |
Add items without an invoice | Receiving workspace → "Skip and add items manually" → "Add items to order" |
Starting a Blind Receiving Session
Step 1
Click on "Purchase orders," then click "Start receiving."
Step 2
Choose the "Store" and "Distributor."
Step 3
Under "How do you want to receive?" choose "Blind receiving."
Step 4
Click "Start receiving." This creates a new purchase order already in Receiving status and opens the receiving workspace.
Adding Items
Step 5
If you have an invoice, upload it — items, quantities, and costs are extracted automatically, the same as with a normal purchase order.
Step 6
If you don't have an invoice, click "Skip and add items manually," then use "Add items to order" to search for and add each item.
Step 7
For each item added manually, choose Case or Item, enter the quantity received, and enter a total cost — unless a price-book cost already exists for that item and distributor, in which case that cost is used instead of what you type.
Step 8
Finish the receiving session the same way you would for any purchase order — review margins, resolve any negative stock, and complete it.
Troubleshooting
You want to cancel a blind receiving session and go back to a draft: that's not available — there's no "ordered" state for a blind session to revert to. Delete the purchase order instead if you need to abandon it; that also removes the receiving session behind it.
You typed a cost for an item but a different cost showed up: check whether that item has a price-book cost set for this distributor — if so, it always overrides what you type in manually, though your entered quantity is still used.
You expected to add another purchase order to a blind receiving session: that's not supported — a blind session only ever has the one purchase order it started with.
You're not sure whether uploading an invoice works for a blind session: it does — the extraction works exactly the same way it does for a normal purchase order.
