Set Up a Promo, like Wine Wednesday

A discount that only kicks in every Wednesday, or only during a happy-hour window, runs itself once you set it up right — instead of a cashier having to remember to apply it by hand on the right day. This guide covers the Schedule section of Discounts!

How Scheduled Discounts Work

Access requirements. Same "Promotions" permission as any other discount.

  • This only works on the templated discount types, not Manual Discount, and only if your account has it turned on. If you don't see a Schedule section on the discount form, either your account doesn't have this feature or you're editing a Manual Discount, which doesn't support it.

  • Leaving "Days" blank means every day, not no days. There's no separate "off" state — an empty selection runs all week. Before saving, double-check the day you actually want (Wednesday, say) is the only one highlighted, and you haven't accidentally cleared the selection back to blank.

  • Leaving the time fields blank means all day. A rule with just a day selected and no start or end time runs all day on that day.

  • A schedule doesn't turn on "Apply automatically" for you — that's still a separate switch. If you want a promo to fire on its own with no cashier action every Wednesday, you need both the schedule set and "Apply automatically when conditions are met" turned on.

  • You can add more than one time slot to the same discount. Set up separate rules for different days or hours on one discount — for example, Wednesday afternoons and Friday evenings together.

  • Overnight windows that cross midnight aren't supported directly. A single slot has to end after it starts on the same day, so something like "10pm to 2am" can't be entered as one rule.

  • Saving the discount replaces its whole schedule at once. Every save rewrites the full set of time slots from whatever's currently on the form — there's no way to add or remove just one rule independently of the rest.

Setting Up a Recurring Schedule

Step 1

Open the discount you're scheduling — new or existing, any Item, Case, Mix-and-match, Bundle, or BOGO discount.

Step 2

Scroll to "Schedule" and click "+ Add time slot."

Step 3

Under "Days," select the day (or days) you want this to run on — Wednesday, for a Wine Wednesday promo. Leave every other day unselected, and double-check only your intended day is highlighted before moving on.

Step 4

Optionally set a start and end time to limit it to part of the day. Leave both blank to run all day.

Step 5

Click "+ Add time slot" again if you need more than one rule on this discount.

Step 6

Make sure "Apply automatically when conditions are met" is turned on if you want this to fire without a cashier doing anything.

Step 7

Save the discount.

Troubleshooting

  • There's no Schedule section on the discount form: either your account doesn't have this feature turned on, or you're editing a Manual Discount, which doesn't support scheduling — ask support if you need it enabled.

  • The discount is running every day instead of just Wednesday: check the "Days" selection — an empty selection means every day, not no days, so a slot that looks unset actually applies at all times.

  • The discount doesn't fire automatically during its scheduled window: check "Apply automatically when conditions are met" separately — the schedule alone doesn't turn that on.

  • You need a promo that runs overnight, like 10pm to 2am: that's not supported as a single rule — a time slot has to end after it starts on the same day.

  • You edited the schedule and your old rules look like they're gone: expected — saving the discount replaces the entire schedule with whatever's on the form at that moment, not just the rows you touched.
