Setting Up Your Zebra ZD411 Label Printer

This guide walks you through unboxing, connecting, and configuring your Zebra ZD411 label printer for use with Scotch.

Written by Help

Before You Start

  • What you'll need. The Zebra ZD411, its power cord, a USB-A to USB-B cable, a roll of your labels, and a computer with a strong internet connection near wherever you want the printer set up.

  • A short video walkthrough of the hardware setup is also available, if you'd rather watch it here!

  • This is a two-part setup. The printer itself has to be physically connected and calibrated before Back Office can find it — skipping ahead to the software side won't work if the hardware side isn't done first.

Google Chrome will need to be utilized for this setup

Setting Up the Hardware

Step 1

Connect the ZD411 to power near the computer you'll be using it with, and confirm the power indicator on the AC adapter is lit.

Step 2

Hold the power button until the indicators turn orange, then let go. Once it's fully on, the power indicator turns green.

Step 3

Open the printer and load your label roll. If your labels have no ink marking on the underside, center the yellow sensor on them. If they have black lines on the underside instead, slide the sensor all the way to one side.

Step 4

Close the printer.

Step 5

Calibrate it by holding the pause and cancel buttons together for about 2 seconds. You can hold the feed button afterward to test that labels move through correctly, and press pause to stop.

Step 6

Power the printer back off, then connect the USB cable from the printer to your computer. If there's still a sticker covering the USB port on the back, remove it first.

Connecting It to Back Office

Step 7

On the computer connected to the printer, log in to Back Office and go to Stock management → Shelf label print queue.

Step 8

Click "Download Zebra Browser Print" and install it for your operating system.

Step 9

Unzip the installer and follow its setup prompts — allow every permission it asks for.

Step 10

Power the printer back on. In the Browser Print setup dialog, click "Manage" to select your printer — not "Add," which won't find it.

Step 11

Back in the Shelf label print queue, open the print modal and confirm your printer now appears under "Select Printer." Run a test print and compare it against one of your existing labels to confirm the size and layout line up.

For designing what actually prints on the label, see "Designing Shelf Labels." For everyday printing once everything's connected, see "Label Printer Walkthrough."

Troubleshooting

  • Your printer doesn't show up as an option when pairing it in Browser Print: click "Manage," not "Add" — "Add" won't find it.

    • Ensure that Zebra Browser Print is actively running on your computer, as it needs to be open for the printer to be detected.

  • A printer that was working before has stopped showing up in Back Office: unplug the USB cable from your computer and plug it back in.

    • If reconnecting doesn't work, try using a different USB port to ensure the connection is stable.

  • The text on your printed labels doesn't line up with the label size: that's a label design issue, not a hardware one — see "Designing Shelf Labels" to adjust it.

  • If the printer still won't appear after reconnecting the USB: perform a clean reinstall of Zebra Browser Print. Uninstall the software, unplug the printer, reinstall Zebra Browser Print, then reconnect the USB, power the printer on, and click "Manage" to select the printer.

  • Label Printing should take place on your Back Office computer: Not at the POS
