How Terminal Payouts Work
Access requirements. You'll need edit access to "Prices" to create or change a payout — the same access "Additional fees" uses.
This is a different feature from "Cash withdrawal." Cash withdrawal (covered in "Configuring Devices") is a generic, unlabeled way to pull cash from the drawer. A payout is a named reason you set up ahead of time — like "Lottery" or "Tips" — so your cash-drawer reports show what the money was actually for.
This feature has to be turned on for your account. If you don't see "New payout" next to "New fee," it isn't available yet — check with an admin.
A payout only works on the register if it's attached to a register shortcut. Creating a payout by itself doesn't make it usable — set up a shortcut for it too, or nobody at the register will be able to select it.
Changing a payout's customer label updates its history, not just future use. Since the label is what actually names the transaction, renaming it changes how every past payout of that type displays too — not just new ones.
There's currently no way to delete a payout once it's created. If you set one up by mistake, remove it from any register shortcuts so it can't be used, rather than trying to delete it.

Creating a Payout
Step 1
Click on "Settings" in the left-menu bar, then click on "Fees & payouts."
Step 2
Click "New payout."
Step 3
Enter an "Internal name" (for your own reference) and a "Customer label" (what shows up on the transaction).
Step 4
On multi-location accounts, review "Stores" — it starts out checked for every store you have access to, so uncheck any you don't want this payout available at.
Step 5
Click "Create."
Making a Payout Usable at the Register
Step 6
Click on "Settings" in the left-menu bar, then click on "Register shortcuts."
Step 7
Open an existing shortcut, or create a new one.
Step 8
Set "Target type" to "Payouts."
Step 9
Under "Select payouts," choose the payout you just created — it'll be listed by its internal name, not its customer label.
Step 10
Save the shortcut.
Troubleshooting
You don't see "New payout" on the Fees & payouts page: this feature isn't turned on for every account — check with an admin.
A payout you created doesn't show up anywhere on the register: it needs to be attached to a register shortcut first — creating the payout alone doesn't make it usable.
You're setting up a register shortcut and the payout you're looking for isn't listed by the name you expected: shortcuts list payouts by their internal name, not the customer label you set for them.
You need to remove a payout that's no longer needed: there's no delete option currently — take it off any register shortcuts instead so it can't be selected anymore.
You renamed a payout's customer label and old transactions changed too: that's expected — the customer label is the actual name used on the transaction record, past and future alike.
