Clocking In and Out

Clocking in and out is what feeds your employee hours report — miss a punch, or clock out from the wrong screen, and that time (or the cashier) won't be where you expect.

How Clocking In and Out Works

  • Access requirements. Any employee can clock themselves in or out with their own PIN — there's no role or permission gate on this at all.

  • Clocking in or out never gates the register itself. You can log in and ring up sales having never clocked in — this only feeds your hours report (see "Tracking Employee Hours"), it doesn't control access to anything on the terminal.

  • Both "Clock in" and "Clock out" are always available, and the app doesn't check which one you did last. Nothing stops two clock-ins in a row with no clock-out in between, or a clock-out with no matching clock-in.

  • You can't open this while a payment is in progress. Finish or cancel the payment first.

Important: clocking out from inside the register (not the login screen) logs the cashier out of the terminal about half a second later — make sure nothing else needs their attention first.

Clocking In or Out

Step 1

Tap the clock icon — it's next to the PIN pad on the login screen before you sign in, or in the left nav rail once you're already logged in.

Step 2

Enter your 4-digit PIN. It checks automatically as soon as you've entered all 4 digits — there's no separate confirm button.

Step 3

Once your PIN is accepted, your name appears and both "Clock in" and "Clock out" become available. Tap whichever one applies — the app won't stop you from picking the wrong one, so double-check before tapping.

Step 4

A "Clock in successful" or "Clock out successful" message confirms it and the dialog closes.

Important: if you tapped "Clock out" from inside the register rather than the login screen, you'll be logged out of the terminal about half a second later.

What It Looks Like at the Register

  • The dialog starts with just a PIN pad — no clock status is shown until you enter your PIN.

  • A wrong PIN shows "Invalid PIN" in place of your name; you can just try again.

  • Once your PIN is accepted, both "Clock in" and "Clock out" are enabled at the same time — the app never shows you your current status first.

  • Tapping the clock icon during an active payment does nothing but show a message asking you to finish or cancel the payment first.

Troubleshooting

  • "Invalid PIN" when clocking in or out: the PIN was mistyped, or belongs to an employee no longer active — both look identical here, so just double-check the PIN and try again.

  • Tapping the clock icon does nothing, or shows a message about finishing or canceling a payment: you can't open Clock in/out while a payment's in progress — finish or cancel it first.

  • Got logged out right after clocking out: expected — clocking out from inside the register (not the login screen) logs you out about half a second later.

  • An employee's hours show a shift with no clock-out, or one that looks cut short: nothing on the terminal prevents back-to-back clock-ins or a stray clock-out — see "Tracking Employee Hours" for how these get paired on a report and how to fix one.

  • Clocked in or out while offline: it still shows "successful" right away — the clock event is saved on the terminal and syncs automatically once it's back online.
