Searching for Products

Finding the right item fast — by name, SKU, barcode, or department, all from one search box — keeps the line moving and avoids ringing up the wrong product by mistake.

How Searching for Products Works

Access requirements. Any employee can search — there's no role gate. Reaching it from the main nav is blocked during an active payment, same as other nav tabs, but the "Search Items" button inside a sale isn't.

  • One search box matches more than the hint text suggests. It says "Search item name," but it actually matches name, SKU, barcode, and department together — any part of the text, not just the beginning of a word.

  • This works fully offline. Search runs entirely against what's already synced to this terminal — the price and stock you see reflect the last successful sync, not live back-office data.

  • Tapping a result adds it to the order immediately. Tap "See details" specifically if you just want to look at an item, not buy it.

Searching for an Item

Step 1

From the Sales screen mid-sale, tap "Search Items" on the cart summary panel — or from anywhere else in the app, tap "Item search" in the left nav rail.

Step 2

Type into the search box. Results update as you type, matching the item's name, SKU, barcode, or department anywhere in the text — not just from the start.

Step 3

Or, with a barcode scanner connected, scan the item while this screen is open. It fills the search box and looks the item up by barcode or SKU.

Filtering and Sorting Results

Step 4

Tap the filter icon to narrow results by "Product Type" (department), "Price" (min/max), "Style," or "Substyle," then tap "Apply."

Step 5

Tap "Name," "In Stock," or "Price" at the top of the list to sort by that column.

Adding an Item or Viewing Its Details

Step 6

Tap anywhere on a result to add it straight to the order.

Step 7

Tap "See details" on a result instead to view its full product info — package size, ABV, style, country of origin, and stock — without adding it to the order.

Step 8

Tap "Back to Order" to return to the sale in progress.

What It Looks Like

  • A result shows its name, quantity on hand, and price (or "Open" for an open-priced item).

  • Adding an item shows a quick green "in cart" confirmation right on that row.

  • A search with no matches just shows a blank list — there's no separate "no results" message on this screen.

  • The detail panel's section header currently reads "Current cash drawer" above an item's package/ABV/style info — that's a mislabeled string in the app, not a cash-drawer feature showing up in item search by design.

Troubleshooting

  • A search comes back empty with no explanation: expected — a blank list is the only sign of "no matches" here. Double-check spelling, or try just part of the name, SKU, or barcode.

  • Scanned a barcode and nothing showed up: that barcode isn't recognized under any of the item's stored variants — try searching by name or SKU instead. (This is different from scanning directly on the Sales screen, which does show "No item found for barcode.")

  • The hint says "Search item name" but a SKU or barcode you typed still worked: expected — the search actually matches name, SKU, barcode, and department together; the hint text just undersells it.

  • Prices or stock look out of date: search reflects whatever was last synced to this terminal — if it's been offline, or hasn't synced since a change was made elsewhere, the numbers here can lag behind what back office shows.

  • Tapped a row and it added to the order when you only wanted to look: tap "See details" specifically next time — tapping anywhere else on the row adds it straight to the order.
