How Applying Discounts Works
Access requirements. Pre-configured discounts from the "Discounts" list never require a PIN, no matter how your store is set up. "Custom $"/"Custom %" entries depend on your store's settings: on the newer permissions system, they default to no PIN, but your admin can turn one on; on the older system, a manager PIN is always required for a custom discount with no way to turn that off.
Two ways to discount. Pick from "Discounts" (pre-configured discounts and promotions set up in back office) or type your own with "Custom $"/"Custom %." "Coupon code" is shown as an option but isn't functional yet — don't rely on it.
Discounts don't stack — the bigger one wins. Applying a second discount to the same item only takes effect if it's larger than what's already applied; otherwise it's silently ignored. Surcharges are the exception — those add on top instead of competing.
An order-level discount splits across every item, not applied as one lump sum. Once that happens, none of those items can take on an additional item-level discount — remove the order-level one first if you need to discount an item individually.
A discount can legally take an item below cost. The app only warns about it — it doesn't block you.
Applying a Discount to One Item
Step 1
Tap the item in the cart, then tap "Discount item."
Step 2
Choose "Discounts" to pick from what's pre-configured for this item, or "Custom $"/"Custom %" to type your own amount, with an optional note.
Step 3
Review "Prior item total" → "Discount on item" → "New item total" before applying.
Step 4
Tap "Apply." If your store requires a PIN for custom discounts, enter it now — a pick from "Discounts" never asks for one.
Applying a Discount to the Whole Order
Step 5
From the cart, tap "Discount Order."
Step 6
Choose "Discounts" or "Custom $"/"Custom %," the same as an item-level discount.
Step 7
Review the before/after summary — prior subtotal, the discount applied, and what's now owed. (Depending on which option you used, the last line may read "New order total" or "New Cart Total" — same information either way.)
Step 8
Tap "Apply" — the discount is split proportionally across every discountable item, not applied as one separate line.
Removing a Discount
Step 9
To remove an item's own discount, reopen it and tap "Remove discounts," check the ones you want gone, then tap "Remove."
Step 10
Discounts that came from an order-level discount can't be unchecked here — go back to "Discount Order" to remove those instead.
What It Looks Like
Each discount in the "Discounts" list shows its calculated dollar amount right there, so you can compare options before picking one.
An item priced below cost shows "The product's price is below cost" / "This might violate regulations in some states" — a warning, not a block.
If nothing's eligible, the list shows "No discounts available."
At this time, the order in which discounts appear at the register cannot be rearranged. This order currently defaults to the 'Created At' date
Troubleshooting
Applied a second discount and nothing changed: discounts don't stack — only the larger of the two takes effect, and the smaller one is silently dropped. Remove the first one if you actually meant to switch to the second.
Can't apply an item-level discount on an item that already has part of an order-level discount: expected — once an order-level discount has split onto an item, that item can't take an additional item-level discount until the order-level one is removed.
"Custom $"/"Custom %" isn't showing: your store may have that option turned off entirely — check with your admin.
Asked for a PIN when applying a custom discount: your store requires manager (or cashier) approval for custom discounts specifically. A pick from "Discounts" never asks for this.
"Coupon code" doesn't do anything when tapped: that option isn't functional yet — use "Discounts" or "Custom $"/"Custom %" instead.
An item won't take any discount at all: it may be set up as non-discountable at the catalog level — check with your admin if that doesn't seem right.
