How Starting a Cash Drawer Works
Access requirements. No PIN or manager approval is required — any logged-in employee can start a session.
There's only one session per device, and no drawer to pick. Starting a session never asks which register or till this is — there's no concept of multiple drawers here.
Starting cash is a single total, not a required denomination count. The bill/coin counter on screen is just an optional calculator — it doesn't save individual denomination counts, only whatever total you land on.
Nothing prints and no confirmation dialog appears. You're returned to the drawer screen's detail view, which shows your starting cash as the de facto confirmation.
It doesn't return you to Sales automatically. You'll need to navigate there yourself once the drawer's open.
Starting a Session
Step 1
From the Sales screen, tap the "Cash Drawer" icon in the nav rail — or, if you try to ring up a sale first, tap "Go to cash drawers" where the Pay button would be. Either way lands on the same screen.
Step 2
If no session is open, you'll see "No active cash drawer." Tap "Start cash drawer" in the action panel on the right.
Step 3
On "Count cash to start drawer," enter your starting cash as a single total under "Amount counted." Use the "Counting tool" if you want to count out bills and coins — it just adds up to the same total.
Step 4
Tap "Start cash drawer" again to confirm.
Step 5
You'll land on "Current cash drawer," showing your starting cash and the drawer's running totals. Navigate back to Sales when you're ready — "Pay" will work normally from here on.
What It Looks Like
Before a session starts, the screen shows "No active cash drawer," along with the drawer's expected cash balance from whenever it was last counted.
Once started, "Current cash drawer" lists your starting cash alongside gross cash payments, refunds, paid in/out, and expected cash present.
The "Add note session" button on the count screen doesn't do anything yet — tapping it has no effect.
Troubleshooting
Tapped "Start cash drawer" and nothing seemed to happen: a session may already be open somewhere — the app doesn't show an error in this case; it just silently does nothing. Check "Current cash drawer" to see if one's already active.
Don't see a way to pick which register or drawer this is: expected — there's only one cash-drawer session per device, so there's nothing to choose.
Worried you need to count every bill and coin: you don't — only the total matters. The bill/coin tool is optional and exists only to help you add it up.
Looking for a receipt after starting: none prints on start — only ending a session prints one.
Still on the Cash Drawer screen after starting: expected — starting a session doesn't send you back to Sales automatically; navigate there yourself.
